Population Problem in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is the most densely populated country in the world. About 1000 people live per square kilometer. More than two million people are being added every year to our existing population. The problem has already gone out of control and is destroying our hope of development. The present growth rate of population in Bangladesh is 1.86 percent. Still it is very high in the world. Though our population is increasing day by day, our land and other facilities for living are not increasing at the same rate. So, it is creating the problem of food-shortage, shelter, housing, clothing, medical treatment, communication, education and entertainment. Many socio-economic and political problems are also taking place day by day because of population boom. There are many causes behind this population boom. Among them prejudice, dogmatism, superstitions, early marriage are mainly responsible. Immediate steps should be taken to reduce the high growth rate of population. Early marriage must be stopped. Family planning campaign all over the country should be introduced and strengthened. Public awareness should be increased to adopt family planning measures. All out measures should be taken to make people educated and conscious of their future generation. Each family must live in a planned way. No family should be allowed to have more than two children. We have to change our attitude. There are some people who take more children in the hope of sons. Such a tendency should be stopped. This wrong idea should be removed. Besides, fanaticism must be uprooted as early as possible to check high population growth. The government as well as the educated people of the society can play a vital role to check this high growth rate of population. If it is not controlled immediately, we will be ruined as a nation.
