Social Value

Social value refers to the acceptable norms or forms of society. It may be called the code of conduct. Social value determines our course of life. It regulates our life and activities. In the past, people put high importance on honesty, sincerity, truthfulness, and noble deeds. They lead a simple, decent and honest life. The corrupt persons were hated in the society. Everybody worked for social peace and order. People were very much conscious of their duties. But at present social values are decaying day by day. Now people who are dishonest and corrupt are in power and position. They are the heroes of the society. Nobody can protest against their injustice. Evil reigns over good. Greed for money and power, injustice, lack of morality, nepotism, corruption, ignorance, etc. are the causes of the present degradation of social value. Their effects are serious. Nowadays the younger do not show any respect to their superiors. Family ties are breaking down. Children are going to astray, getting drug-addicted, and doing various anti-social activities. The present social value disturbs social peace and happiness and stops the development works. The condition has become a matter of great concern in our country. We should take some positive steps to upgrade social values. People should be properly educated. Our greedy and selfish attitude should be changed. Parents should take proper care of their children and give them moral teaching. Corrupted persons should be given an exemplary punishment. Good deeds should be encouraged. Above all, public awareness should be raised in this regard. We should form the habit of doing good deeds in our children. Otherwise, as a nation, we will invariably fall into great danger.

Social value means acceptable and admirable norms of behavior in society. In the past, honesty, sincerity, truthfulness, piety, fellow-feeling, etc. were considered as social values. We know that honesty is the best policy. But, it is a sorrow that these social values have no longer existed now. Now the criminals are honored as heroes of the society. People feel frightened to speak against their evil deeds. The causes of the present social degradation are the materialistic attitude of people in general. Without a few exceptions, people now run after money, fame, and fortune without giving any thought to right or wrong, good or evil, moral or immoral. The effects of social values in the present age are very deplorable. The noble qualities are now exiled. However, social values should be preserved by way of raising awareness among people.
