Corona Virus / Corona Virus (COVID-19)

A corona virus is one of the numbers of virus that causes diseases in mammals and birds. In humans, the viruses cause respiratory infections, including the common cold, fever, cough and difficulty breathing in most patients. Rarer symptoms include dizziness, nausea, vomiting and a runny nose. The name ‘corona virus’ is derived from the Latin corona, meaning crown or halo which refers to the characteristic appearance of the virus particles. In December 2019, an outbreak of the corona virus began in Wuhan, China. The outbreak is ongoing as of February 2020. About 1500 people have already died and many others are affected daily. Internationally, other countries sought to limit travel to and from the region and implemented screening measures to detect those potentially carrying the virus. Corona viruses can be transmitted between humans through respiratory droplets that infected people expel when they breathe, cough or sneeze. A typical surgical mask cannot block out the viral particles contained in these droplets, but simple measures-such as washing our hands, disinfecting frequently touched surfaces and objects and avoiding touching our face, eyes and mouth-can greatly lower our risk of infection. There are no available treatments for any human corona virus. Those who catch a common corona virus usually recover on their own and can ease the process by taking pain and fever medications, taking hot showers, drinking plenty of fluids and staying home to rest.
